The incidence of infertility continues to slowly increase worldwide. In this lecture, we will look at the connection between infertility, the immune system, and the microbiome. Dysbiosis sets the stage for endotoxemia and the resulting cascade of inflammatory cytokines. This chronic process can play a role in reducing sperm counts in men and this is also the main cause of liver qi stagnation in women. Overgrowth of pathogens, a reduction in short-chain fatty acid-producing bacteria, and an increase in yeast/fungus and aldehydes in the microbiome are a part of infertility in both men and women.
