An Introduction to the Integrative Clinical Approach to Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD)

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are increasing world-wide with highest prevalence in Western developed countries. In these diseases chronic inflammation in the intestinal mucosa leads to severe gastro-intestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, rectal bleeding and extreme urgency. Current pharmacological treatments have limited efficacy and many potential side effects. Therefore there is growing need and awareness for new safe and effective treatments. TCM offers a unique insight on the pathology of IBD. By using a novel integrative model which incorporates both the biologic and energetic aspects of these diseases we can reach a more accurate diagnosis and treatment. This new integrative model for IBD is the result of basic and clinical research and years of clinical experience with thousands of IBD patients. It offers an effective, comprehensive and clinically oriented approach for practitioners to treat these complex inflammatory conditions.
